Mahlik Motorsports originated in 1963, when Arnold Mahlik rehabbed a 1936 coup and hit the local dirt track racing circuit in Northeast Wisconsin. He was a regular for several years at speedways in Luxemburg De Pere and Seymour, Wis. The years passed, and Arnold put his career on hold in 1967 to raise a family and begin a career.
The doors at Mahlik Motorsports reopened in spring of 1991, with renewed excitement for racing, and a new generation of Mahliks.
Doug Mahlik, Arnold’s oldest son, was the driver of the #15 dirt modified for five years again racing on the same local dirt tracks once raced by his father. In those five years, Doug received many awards and accolades, most notably a track championship at Seymour Speed way in 1996, and runner-up honors in the 1996 International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) National competition held in Boone Iowa.
Given the considerable success achieved in just a few short years, Mahlik Motorsports looked to grow its success beyond the local dirt tracks and set its sights on conquering the asphalt circuit. Purchasing a late model driven by one of NASCAR’s past champions Matt Kenseth, now one of the country’s premier race car drivers, Doug went on to secure Rookie of the Year honors in the Late Model series at Wisconsin International Raceway.
After racing at Wisconsin International Raceway for three years in the Late Model Series, again Mahlik Motorsports looked for a greater challenge, entering into American Stockcar Association (ASA) Touring Series for higher-level competition and exposure, as the ASA series is often viewed as a launching pad for future NASCAR champions.
After three years of touring the country with ASA Mahlik Motorsports again looked for opportunities to advance within the racing world. In 2003, Mahlik Motorsports upped its level of competition by entering into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team prepared and qualified well enough to compete in two national, elite events that season: one at famous Indianapolis Raceway Park and another at Loudon New Hampshire Speedway, finishing an all time best of 20th, among a crowd of national contenders.
Sensing a need to return to the team’s roots, Mahlik Motorsports returned to the American Stockcar Association series in 2004, entering into a new series known as the Limited Late Model Series. In first year of competition as part of the new series, Mahlik Motorsports finished achieved significant success, chalking up a victory at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, scoring top-five finishes in three of eight races, and placing in the top-ten another seven times.
In 2006, Mahlik Motorsports tapped into its talent pool calling up Arnold’s youngest son, Nick as the new driver of the ASA car. In his rookie year, Nick competed in the ASA Limited Late Model Series finishing in the top 30 in final driver points.
In the upcoming season, Mahlik Motorsports continues to refocus its efforts to achieve success on the local racing circuit. Given is experience and success on a national level, the team is once again looking to return to its roots, and apply its knowledge and expertise toward assembling a team to contend for the local championships. |
